Shillong

Located in northeastern India, Shilling serves as the capital of the state of Meghalaya. The hill station offers a milder climate than tropical India and was once the summer capital of Eastern Bengal and Assam during the British Raj. The rolling green hills surrounding the capital gave the city its nickname: ‘Scotland of the East’. Nature lovers will enjoy the many waterfalls, walking trails and nearby lake that can be found on the outskirts of town. The enchanting Assam-style houses and pretty tapestry of fields give the city its rural hill-station charm. Take in the city views from Shillong Peak, enjoy boating in Umiam Lake as well as horseriding, fishing, cave exploration, golfing, and rock climbing. Don’t miss the chance to explore the nearby Nokrek National Park known for its undulating meadows and spectacularly scenic views.
